Whenever you see a photo of a fit person on your social media, you dream of living a healthy lifestyle to look like that as well. However, there is a general notion that living a healthy life is difficult. However, if you really want to do it, its as easy as eating an apple or your favorite fruit. Here are some of the tips to live a healthy lifestyle and do right by your body:
Start from the Basic: Drink More Water
You body is made up of 60% water which proves why it is important for your body to be hydrated throughout the day. As per the research, women need to drink 2.21 L per day and men should drink 3.0 L per day. However, some people should take more due to the water we lose through physical activity, temperatures, and other factors.
When you wake up, make sure that you consume at least half a liter when you wake up because every morning your body is dehydrated. After which, you should strategically plan how you will drink enough water during the day. You can use a timer or an app to help you out.
You also need to carry a bottle of water everywhere you go. This will make living a healthy lifestyle easier.
Have a Healthy Sleep Routine
There are people who only 3-5 hours of sleep and they are successful. However, there also those who claim that they need as much as 15 hours. So it all comes to how much sleep your body needs.
The only way you can find out is by simply experimenting. You can do this by planning your sleep and recording how your body feels when you wake up. This way you know how to find what works for you, your sweet spot.
You don’t even have to sleep in one go. Just try the polyphasic sleep schedule or just have a siesta of one hour or more in the afternoon. All you have to do is listen to your body after waking up, if you feel refreshed after, it means that you are getting the right amount of sleep.
Exercise and Make it Fun
People look at exercise as more of an obligation which makes it less fun. You need to add exercise in your life and make it more fun by applying small tweaks to your life. For example, you can walk to work rather than commuting, walk your dog or take a walk with a friend instead of watching TV, you can also use a treadmill/standing desk instead of using a regular desk. You can also dance around when doing chores or watching TV.
Track What You Eat
Pick one day, make it tomorrow, and purpose to track what you eat throughout the day. That act alone will change everything. You can also get an app that will show you what you eat and how much calories and nutrients are in the food.
To be successful in this, you need to track literary everything. You see what you ate and the cookies you sneaked in the day. By being aware of what you eat, you will subconsciously change some of the unhealthy foods you are eating and incorporate more healthier options.
The next time you want to eat a chocolate bar, eat a piece of fruit instead. You will be able to train yourself to live a healthy lifestyle because you will be choosing something healthy over something unhealthy. This will also change the way you feel about yourself.
Wash Your Hands
When you were in kindergarten, you were told how important it is to wash your hands before and after eating, after going to the toilet, etc. But in reality, only a few people wash their hands before eating.
You need to make sure before, during, and after preparing food, after using the toilet, before eating, and after touching dirty stuff like garbage, animals, or sick people. By washing your hands, you will prevent infections in the eyes, lower your chances of getting any illnesses and infections, and also lower your chances of intestinal and diarrhea problems.
Sit Less
Believe it or not, when you sit too much you increase your chances of dying. There is a study that proves that people who are inactive and sit more have greater chances of dying that those are active and sit less.
If you put in some work out in your day but you still sit a lot, you’re still unhealthy. You need to get off the chair and walk more. For every 25 minutes, walk around for five minutes. All you have to do is minimize your sitting.
Love Yourself
There is a close relationship between physical health and mental health. This is why loving yourself is very important because it will make you see yourself positively and increase your physical and mental health.
Just by placing your hands on your belly you will release oxytocin. Or call someone you love and hearing their voice alone releases oxytocin.
Quit Unhealthy Habits
Drinking alcohol, smoking, or eating snacks in the middle of the night, we’ve all been there. If you want to live the kind of lifestyle your body deserves, you need to ditch bad habits and replace those habits with healthy ones.
The first thing you need to do is find out why you indulge in the unhealthy habit in the first place, find what triers the action. Figure out why you crave smoking, is it because you don’t know how to socialize? For example, if you have symptoms of meth use, get the help you need.
Once you find out why you indulge in unhealthy habits you should start to find other ways to fulfill those needs. If you are into smoking, what you need to do is change the routine. You can change into it a new habit like grabbing coffee instead, a way to make sure that you still have social stimulation. Find a way to create and improve a healthier habit.
Conclusion
Just like its said in the Bible, your body is your temple. You need to take care of your body the way it should be taken care of. Add these tips and make them a routine in your life.
