There are few nicer feelings in this world than relaxing and unwinding in a warm room, sat on some fresh timber with one of those sauna heaters blasting through the air. Saunas though, are not just perfect places to sit down and unwind after a long day, they also have a great range of health benefits.
Saunas are not for everyone and I know many people who simply don’t enjoy the experience. On a personal note I absolutely love unwinding in the hot space and I could stay in there for eternity. If you aren’t sure whether or not a sauna is for you, here are just some of the health benefits which you can count on if you do decide to step inside.
Stress Relief
Unsurprisingly, saunas are absolutely brilliant when it comes to distressing the body, mind and happiness. Medical studies have found that stress can directly damage our health so it makes sense to find ways in which you can unwind. There are many ways in which saunas help you to destress, first of all simply sitting in a quiet and warm room can remove any outside distractions, and give you some time to yourself. On top of this, the heat which the sauna provides helps to relax the muscles and stimulate endorphins in the body.
Detox
Another great health benefit of the sauna is that it can really help your body to get rid of toxins beneath the pores. As the temperature rises in the sauna, your core body temperature rises causing you to sweat. When you sweat the pores open up and the sweat glands become stimulated. Sweating is actually designed to cool the body down in hot situations but in doing so the body can get rid of many harmful toxins such as lead, zinc and nickel.
Help With Sleep
If you have trouble sleeping then a visit to the sauna can do you the world of good and help you to get a great night’s sleep. This is down to the fact that spending time in the sauna will ensure that your muscles are deeply relaxed, thus helping you to drift off easier on an evening. another benefit that will help you sleep is that after a sauna those endorphins slowly begin to decline, as you hit the bed they will be fully out of your system which will aid you in both falling asleep, and staying asleep.
Calorie Burn
Many say that saunas can help you with weight loss but this is not strictly true and you most certainly couldn’t rely on them when it comes to losing the pounds or stay healthy and fit. In posit of this however it is worth mentioning that spending time in a sauna can actually help you to burn calories. The reason behind this is that during your time in the sauna your heart rate increases, thus burning calories in the body. If you are on a health kick, a sauna could play a part in your overall strategy.
