Once upon a time public criminal records were regarded as something that should be kept under lock and key. In other words, despite their name, they weren’t actually regarded as being that “public” after all.
Well, to say times have changed would be an understatement. These records are now accessible more than ever before, and the reasons why people are tapping into them is far and wide.
This is the reason behind today’s article. We are now going to mull over some of the main reasons why people are using these types of records more and more in their day-to-day life.
Reason #1 – To check your own record
This first reason might appear somewhat strange, but give us time.
Have you ever been in a position where you apply for job after job, only to not hear any sort of response? In truth, examples of this ilk can span across various forms of your life but for the purposes of today, let’s just focus on the jobs market.
There’s a slight chance that there is something in your background check which is flagging up for potential employers and ultimately putting them off you. It might be something that you never had any idea about, or something that you just thought was so insignificant that it would never cause a problem. The most common example in this regard is a traffic ticket which unfortunately, as daft as it might sound, is picked up by a criminal background check.
Bearing this in mind, just looking over your own background check can provide you with a little more insight into why things might not be quite going your way. It might also help you think of ways to combat problems like this.
Reason #2 – To check someone you are dating
This next reason might sound bizarre again, but the number of cases of people meeting someone only to find out that they aren’t the person they thought they were is frightening. Usually, these revelations come a long way down the line when it’s almost too late.
Particularly with the development of Tinder, it’s more common than ever to meet a “stranger”. For women in particular, initiating one of these checks can add a layer of security prior to one of the dates.
Reason #3 – To check your neighbours
This next reason isn’t done for the purposes of being “creepy”, but rather because the neighbourhood in which you live in is paramount to your happiness. If you are looking to move house, and everything seems fine on first glance, getting a final insight into your neighbours is something that can really confirm whether or not a particular area is right for you.
The last thing you want is to move next door to a career criminal, or even a historic sex offender. By researching your neighbours beforehand you can avoid such problems and ultimately, not make one of the most expensive mistakes of your life.
