Australia’s subsequent rise in technological advancements paved the way for the advent of many futuristic equipment and devices. The market for computer and software retailing in the country was valued at 5.8 billion dollars by 2020. And it is continually looking for ways to deliver better-performing products to the customers at improved effectiveness. With more and more varieties of computers coming into the market, enterprises want smarter and more reliable equipment that can withstand even the most challenging environmental conditions. The fanless PC is an example of such a device.
How Do They Work?
Fanless computers use the principles of conduction and convection to attain natural cooling effects. The design and shape of the device influence the amount of heat dissipated into the surroundings.
The device’s main part is the heat sink, which allows hot air from the equipment to disperse into the cool incoming air. It creates a cooling effect so that the devices continue to stay at normal temperatures. Heat conductors make for good heat sinks. Good conductors of heat like Aluminium and Steel are used to make these heat sinks. Heat flow is further made effective by certain set functions in the device that conveys heat from the hot parts to the cooler surroundings and thus cools the whole system
Advantages of Fanless PCs
- Silent
Most of the noise generated in a computer comes from the fan. Since there is no fan in a fanless PC, there is no noise emanating from the device. This feature allows the computers to be convenient for use in music studios, meetings and places demanding absolute silence.
- Longer Life
Reduced moving parts creates reduced chances of wear due to friction. Hence fanless devices can last longer than their fan fitted counterparts. Being fully covered, and no requirement for ventilation, they are better protected from dust, particles from debris or other contaminants. They are also highly shock-absorbent and resistant to vibrational wear. Hence, most regular expenses that are common for standard PCs are practically non-existent in fanless computers.
- Compact
Since there is no space taken up by fans, the fanless devices are smaller and can fit easily into spaces. Hence they are very compact and ergonomic for areas that are small or cramped. Being smaller in size, they are easily transportable if one needs to transport it somewhere else.
- Higher Quality Performance
Fanless devices provide higher quality performances for the same work to weight ratio as that of traditional devices. Only consuming lesser power, fanless devices have improved efficiency. Due to the lack of moving parts, it is more reliable and fail-safe.
- Less Power Consumption
Having no fan, they consume less power than their counterparts. Hence, they reduce the cost of electrical consumption. This is only possible because of the ergonomic design of the device, which helps dissipate the heat produced.
Areas of Application
- Sound sensitive areas like sound recording studios, meetings, board rooms, hospital operation theatres, galleries, etc.
- Used for industrial heavy grade applications, where the environment is dusty and dirty. They are also useful in industrial areas where shock or vibrations are common.
- Used in chemical plants where there are contaminants in the air and manufacturing plants with high amounts of debris in the air.
